Pond Management
An integrated management approach means utilizing physical, chemical, and biological methods to address issues a pond may have. Physical methods might include redirecting surface runoff to limit nutrient inputs, aerating to improve oxygen concentrations, and applying dyes to limit light penetration, thereby reducing weed growth. Chemical methods may include spraying algaecides and herbicides to kill weeds and algae, and the application of polymers to tie up phosphorus that contributes to weed and algae growth. Biological methods can be applications of beneficial bacteria and enzymes to digest muck and sequester nutrients, or planting aquatic plants and buffer strips to prevent erosion. Each situation is different and requires a unique combination of management methods.
Cason Land & Water Management, LLC offers our clients three types of pond management programs, customized to fit their individual needs. We service Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. All pond programs are administered by our trained, licensed, and insured biologists who are certified as professional chemical applicators.
Pond Assistance Program
Our Pond Assistance Program is for the do-it-yourself pond owner. Upon request, one of our biologists will deliver the products that you need to manage your pond, instruct you in their proper usage, and answer any questions you may have. We provide professional-grade products along with the necessary expertise for you to properly manage your own pond. Our Pond Assistance Program is popular with clients across Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois.
On Call Pond Management Program
Our On Call Pond Management Program is a contracted service that allows the customer to request specific pond management services, such as weed and algae treatments, as they are needed. Integrated Pond Management Program
Our Integrated Pond Management Program is a contracted service with regularly scheduled treatment intervals. Cason Land & Water Management, LLC provides Integrated Pond Management Services (IPMS), customized to each pond’s individual needs. By scientifically analyzing your pond, we can create an integrated management plan that is unique to your pond’s needs. Our IPMS program uses physical, chemical, and biological methods to address any problems in your pond.
Services in the IPMS program may include:
- Application of nutrient management products to sequester available nutrients, and directly compete with algae and weed growth
- Application of dye to limit the amount of sunlight penetration in the water, reducing plant and algae growth
- Application of algaecides and/or herbicides to control problematic algae and weed growth
- Application of muck-digesting bacteria to reduce algal blooms and anoxic (low oxygen) conditions
- Maintenance of aeration systems and fountains to ensure optimal, long-term performance
- Maintenance and improvements of the riparian area around your pond through buffer strips, native plantings, and removal of invasive species
Ponds enrolled in IPMS programs are visited on a regular schedule, by our professionally trained biologists. We have found that through an integrated management approach, our clients’ ponds become less dependent on chemical treatments and experience fewer and less severe algae blooms and weed problems. Through our IPMS program, you can find peace of mind knowing your pond is being taken care of by professionals. Instead of spending time and energy working on your pond, you can simply relax and enjoy its benefits! We offer our IPMS program throughout Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois.
